Piglet Sees The World (Various Vignettes)

by SirGerald (May 2003)

Scene 1: Piglet is dressed as an American Indian chief with a full headdress. He's standing erect with his arms folded smartly in front of him and watching intently as the braves of his tribe perform the honorable Dance of Gratitude for a Successful Hunt.

Scene 2: Piglet is seen through a telescope from the base camp at Mount Everest as he and his companions, all dressed warmly and carrying their 100 lb. packs, trudge up the steep and windswept slopes of the mountain.

Scene 3: Piglet appears to be in downtown New York City during the noon hour as an endless stream of taxicabs, trucks and bicycles flows by on the nearby street. Piglet approaches one of the local newstands and points to a copy of the New York Times.

Scene 4: Piglet kneels in the front of a brightly colored canoe with a double- bladed paddle in his grasp. He is studying the river current as he and his two companions brave the rapids of the mighty Snake river in Idaho.

Scene 5: Piglet sits quietly on the front row of a tastefully decorated church with his head bowed in reverence while listening carefully to the prayer being offered. Seated beside him are the two young missionaries, dressed in dark suits and ties, who are obviously pleased to have Piglet attend the service with them.

Scene 6: Piglet is perched on the back of an elephant as it trudges through the African bush in search of an elusive pride of lions that have been reported in the area. Piglet is armed only with a 35mm camera with an overly large tele- photo lens. The guide seated beside him is excitedly pointing off to the left where he has seen something of interest. Perhaps it's the lions...

Scene 7: Piglet's arms are extended straight up in the air and he screams at top of his small voice as he reaches the apex of the 200 foot roller coaster ride and starts down the other side where he can see the twists and turns that are coming. The people in the cars behind him seem to mimic his every move.

Scene 8: Piglet is underwater in the midst of a vast array of unusual and colorful fish. His scuba gear is small to match his small frame but you can still see his eyes alight with awe and wonder as he watches the antics of the fish swirling around him.

Scene 9: Piglet is standing waistdeep in a shallow pool on the edge of a high- mountain stream with a fly rod held deftly in his hands. His hip-waders keep him dry and comfortable as he carefully places the dry fly he is using in the precise middle of the nearby pool where he is told a large trout is lurking.

Scene 10: Piglet is seen in profile as he stands at the Vietnam War Memorial. His head is bowed and his expression is one of deep thought and contemplation as he and others in the group listen to the stories being related by the young people who always seem to congregate here.

Piglet has now seen a lot of the world. But there is so very much more to see.
